Athlete of the Month for March 2018

It is time to announce our Athlete of the Month for 2018.  When Jen and I are looking for athletes to nominate for Athlete of the Month, we look for athletes who stand out during class because of their positivity, motivation, humility, and attitude.  These are athletes we see on a regular consistent basis in class and at social events.  This month’s athlete took some time off in 2017 to have a child.  She returned slowly and was smart about not pushing too hard in the beginning.  Over the course of a few months, she was back to 100% and has surpassed her pre-pregnancy fitness.  She also signed up for our Open Competition this year and crushed the rower on 18.1.  The Athlete of the Month for March 2018 is:

ANGIE ALLEN

1. Where are you from originally?

Finleyville, Pa.

2. If not from Pittsburgh, what brought you to Pittsburgh?

I went to Pitt for college and law school and never left the city.

3. Where do you work?

I am a law clerk for a family law judge.

4. What is your favorite hobby?

CrossFit, running and basking in silence when my children sleep.

5. How did you discover CrossFit?

An old industrial athletics member, Ali Fischer, introduced me to CrossFit after I had my first baby. I had heard of it and actually went to a free community class at a different box once, but never had the desire to join. Post-partum with my first drove me to find some identities outside of parenting and I’ve been hooked on CrossFit ever since.

6. When did you start CrossFit?

Early 2016 and then again in October 2017 following a pregnancy hiatus.

7. Why did you start CrossFit?

I was looking for something to challenge myself physically and mentally. I wanted something more to do than run where I could get out of the house, clear my mind and see progress regularly.

8. What is your favorite thing to do in CrossFit?

Squats, any variety.

9. What is your least favorite thing to do in CrossFit?

Cleans…

10. What is the number 1 thing you want to get better at?

I’d love to have consistent double-unders.

11. What is your favorite part about coming to CrossFit at Industrial Athletics?

In every stage of my CrossFit life thus far I have been welcomed, coached and pushed in the exact way I needed to be. The coaches truly have taken and continue to take the time to learn my strengths and weaknesses individually, which has helped me with my fitness goals. Also, the members have given me much needed adult interaction and a sense of community that I never experienced before joining the box.

12. What is your favorite CrossFit WOD?

I love doing long workouts with a variety of movements that you do for specific times.
